This may have been a castle of King Bagdemagus, since Lancelot and Meliagrant's stepsister joined her father here. Vulgate VII has the Damoisele a la Harpe, a sister or cousin of Helaes de la Forest Perilleuse. This suggests a location in or near the Forest Perilous.

Helaes de la Forest Perilleuse may well be Malory's Hellawes, the sorceress of Castle Nigramous.
