MOTE OF MARK

Iron age fortress that has yielded pottery dating from c. AD 500, leading some to propose it as a possible location for the encampment of a mighty chieftain who might be cognate with the historical figure who was, over the centuries, become known as King Arthur. This hill fort on the southern coast of Scotland has an uncertain connection to King Mark of the Tristan legend.
