In the First Continuation of Chrétien’s Perceval, Arthur presents Nottingham to Lord Guiromelant when he marries Clarissant, Gawain’s sister. According to the fourteenth-century Short Metrical Chronicle, Lancelot built Nottingham to house Queen Guinevere during his civil war with Arthur.
