Viviane, the French Damsel of the Lake, sent two unnamed maidens to help Lancelot in Britain. Eventually, mistakenly believing Lancelot to have been killed the maiden, Phyllis Ann Karr chose to call "Rossignol", took the veil and became a nun in England rather than return to the Lake.
