RUMMARET

A king who paid homage to Arthur in Iceland, first mentioned by Wace. His domain is referred to as Weneland by Wace, and as Winetland and Winet by Layamon. The country of the Wends, Finland and Gwynedd have all been suggested as the land intended. Rummaret gave his son as a hostage to Arthur and he helped to quell a fight in Arthur's hall. The name Weneland may suggest a connection with Vinland, the Norse name for that part of North America which, as we now suspect, was discovered in the Middle Ages.
