WILLIAM OF SALEBRANT
William Celebronche

A companion of Bleoberis, Elin of Graie, and the lord of Saie in Renaut de Bâgé’s Le Bel Inconnu. When Bleoberis was defeated in combat by Guinglain (Gawain’s son), William, Elin, and the lord tried to avenge Bleoberis’s disgrace. Guinglain defeated them all at Valcolor, killing William and wounding the other two. In Thomas Chestre’s Lybeaus Desconus, William has a stronger role as the guardian of the Perlious Passage. Guinglain defeats him, but does not kill him, instead sending him to Arthur’s court.
