Malicious ghoul spirits of Japan. Unlike the ghouls of Arabia, who disinter corpses, the kashas have to steal a corpse before it is cremated.
Sometimes they are so eager and greedy that they even carry off the coffin in which a corpse reposes. Consequently, it is necessary to keep a tight guard on corpse and coffin until they have been cremated, and to make a lot of noise during the night before cremation in order to scare the kashas away.
